This Ordnance Survey map of 1944 from A Vision of Britain through Time locates the rural districts in existence in Wiltshire between 1934 and 1974.
Salisbury and Wilton Rural District was a merger of the earlier rural districts of Salisbury Rural District and Wilton Rural District. The rural district was in the southeastern corner of Wiltshire with Hampshire and Dorset across the county borders to the east and south. It surrounded the municipal boroughs of Salisbury and Wilton. To the north was the rural district of Amesbury to the west that of Mere and Tisbury. Salisbury and Wilton Rural District existed from 1934 until 1974 when it became part of the Salisbury District.
