Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 2, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :

Davis, Samuel - born 12/24/1785 (s/b 1755), Augusta County (area later Rockbridge Co.), Virginia; father killed by Shawnee Indians abt. 1759 & soldier reared by brogher John; entered service 1776 in Washington County, Virginia; moved from there 1797 to Blount County, Tennessee, thence 1808 to Mississippi Territory (area later became Madison County, Alabama), & was 1st white man to plant corn in that area; received Pension there in 1832 when brother John deceased abt. 20 years; query letter in file 1918 from descendant Mrs. Birdie Grigsby, Laddonia, Missouri, who also was descendant of Revolutionary War soldier William Davis of Jackon (s/b Jackson) County, Alabama.
