Facts and Events
Nathaniel Davis was slain in the second Kerrs Creek Massacre and Sarah second married Hugh Cunningham. Hugh identifies his wife only as "Sarah" in his 1772 will however Hugh identifies his step-son James Davis, son of Sarah and Nathaniel Davis. Another James Davis is the Executor of Hugh Cunningham's will and later conveys the tract of lands as Administrator of his estate
WILL OF HUGH CUNNINGHAM
- Page 17. (abt. 1772) Hugh Cunningham. To his wife Sarah, personal property and 30 pounds to be paid out of his real estate when sold, said personal property at the death of his wife to pass to his daughter Jesibel [Isabel]. To his step-son James Davies, his black mare and saddle and bridle. The whole of his estate to be divided equally between his eleven children [Note: will actually states: "between my children and grandchildren, 11 in number". Executors named as wife Sarah, John Young son-in-law and James Davis, "nabour". Witnesses: James McMath, Michael Johnson, Robert Hamilton. [Botetourt County Will Book A].

The Nutt surname in Irish (Ulster) is a shortened form of McNutt.
There is a McNutt / Nutt Family Tree DNA site.
Irene Amato writes: "I have found our family name spelled all the following: Not(t), Nut(t), Knot(t), Nutter, Knut, Naught, McNutt etc.."

- ↑ Maiden name is said to be McNutt or Nutt but I have yet to find Primary Source Documentation to prove this. There is a marriage record for a Nathaniel Davis to a Sarah Nutt in PA that people use as a source however Nathaniel & Sarah Davis were already in Augusta VA [per Muster Rolls] when this PA marriage took place - needs more research
