Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:


  • Page 4.--15th March, 1758. James Davis to sons Henry, William and Samuel Davies, love and affection, 1,300 acres known as Davies' Fancy on the Indian River. 1st, to Henry, a portion on the South Fork known as the Beaver Dam, down the said Fork to where the two Forks meet; 2d, to son William, 350 acres; 3d, to son Samuel, 350 acres. Signed, James ( ) Davies. Delivered: Wm. Davis, May, 1765.
  • Page 209. September 9, 1769. John Willey and Elisabeth his wife to Samuel Davis. 110 pounds. 280 acres on the waters of Buffalo Creek. Witnesses: James Davies, Adam Wallace, Peter Wallace. [Botetourt County Deed Book 1].

  • Vol. 1 - NOVEMBER, 1758 (B). - Samuel Davis vs. James Tod.--Samuel Davis married Hannah Tod, daughter of James Tod, in 1758.

French & Indian War service: Samuel Davis, Montgomery Co, VA under Capt John Montgomery, 50 ac
  • Samuel received his inheritance from his father:
Botetourt Co, VA Deed Bk 1, pg 193, 198, 199, March 1771: Samuel Davis, 350 ac from the Eastern position of "Davis Fancy" originally comprising 300 ac of land along the Holston River.
  • Apparently Samuel sold this 350 acres in order to acquire a tract of land more suitable to his own needs because Samuel and his wife Hannah Davis sold their land acquired as part of "Davis Fancy" to Robert Davis:
Botetourt Co, VA Deed Bk 1, pg 201, Feb 21, 1771: Samuel Davis and Hannah, his wife, to Robert Davis. Land on the head waters of the Holston River, containing 350 acres, for 100 pounds sterling. Wit: James Davis, Robert Doak, James Long, Alexander Long
  • Annals of Southwest Virginia, Botetourt Co, Deed Book 1, pg 209, Sept 9, 1769: John Willey and Elizabeth, his wife to Samuel Davis; 280 acres on the waters of Buffalo Creek for 110 pounds sterling. Wit: James Davis, Adam Wallace, Peter Wallace.
  • In the early 1790's Samuel and his wife Hannah conveyed two other tracts of land and moved to Knox County, TN.
  • Samuel made his will on March 27, 1795 and it was probated in Knox County, TN in April 1795:
