[edit] Notes2. Robert Carlyle (James Sr. ) was born about 1721 in , , , Ireland. He died in 1802 in , Bath Co., VA. From James H. Fristoe , 13 Sep 1998 Known as "Robert of the Bullpasture" From "Carlile And Related Families, Augusta, Bath and Highland Counties Virginia 1745 to 1875" by Carol Watson and Frances Buchanan Arlington, 1994. "The two Roberts of this generation are difficult to separate in French and Indian War records; however, Robert of the Bullpasture always signed his mark. Two Roberts were listed as privates in Capt. George Wilson's Company 11 aug 1756. One was Robert of the Bullpasture; the other probably Robert (wife Esther) who moved later to Greenbrier County. Pay vouchers show Robert received 10.7.1 pounds for provisions for William Preston's company in Nov 1757, witness, Charles Lewis (Robert signed by mark). Robert received 11.0 shillings pay from the Virginia House of Burgesses for defense of the Frontier on 14 Sep 1758 (Hening, Vol. 7, pg 192) and 1.1.1 pounds for provisions for the militia. Robert also gave a receipt for 4 pounds for provisions for Preston's company in Nov 1758 (signed by mark) Draper6QQ63 & 6QQ136) In 1767 Robert was certified for 478 pounds of hemp (O. F. Morton, Highland, pg. 89). 15 Apr 1778, was one of over 100 inhabitants of Western Augusta County who signed a petition to the governing body at Williamsburg which is filed in Richmond, to create the new county of Bath. 20 Aug 1782 - Robert & Nancy Carlyle v. John & Elizabeth Carlyle; not executed for want of time - trespass with case damages of 400 pounds. "Augusta County Land Records Books show Robert Carlyle, Sr. owned 150 acres in 1786 through 1790. In 1787 Robert Sr. was listed as a dependant of his son Robert Jr (Little) on the tithables list (Schreiner-Yantis, pg 129), but Robert Sr. did not legally deed his remaining land to Robert (Little) until 1794 (Morton, Highland, pg 168). This land was combined with the 150 acre parcel and legally deeded to his son Robert (Little) 4 July 1794, the same year that Robert Sr. wrote his will. Dated 4 Jul 1794, the will, was proved in Bath June Court 1802: Eldest son George Carlyle; eldest daughter (Elizabeth) Hicklin; second daughter Jane Graham; third daughter Rachel Peebles; second son Robert Carlyle, left the plantation on the Bullpasture. Son Robert to be executor. Signed Robert (R) Carlyle Witnesses: John Bradshaw, Robert Carlyle & William Stuart. Thomas Peebles, Robert Lockridge and Samuel Pullins inventoried the estate". Continuing from Watson & Buchanan's "Carlile and Related Families...." The children of Robert of the Bullpasture and Nancy Agnes Carlyle were listed "on a blank page facing page 123 in a copy of this book" ("Sermons To Young Women: In Two Volumes. The Sixth Edition. Vol l. London: Printed for D. Payne. M. DCC, LXVI (1766), by James Fordyce, D.D. "found by Clay Hamilton in 1992 in the estate sale of Elsie Hamilton Folks, great-great-granddaughter of Christopher and Jean Carlile Graham, was the following information in one hand in the old style:" A listing of the children followed, then "These were the children of Robert.....and Nancy. This information was published in Bath County Historical Society Newsletter, #20, Fall 1992, p. 4." Robert married Nancy Agnes (Carlyle) about 1747 in , Augusta Co., VA. Nancy was born about 1725. From James H. Fristoe , 13 Sep 1998 Robert and Nancy had the following children: + 6 F i Elizabeth (Hicklin) Carlyle. + 7 F ii Jean (Graham) Carlyle was born on 10 Nov 1750. She died on 5 Oct 1838. + 8 M iii George Carlyle was born on 30 May 1756. He died on 27 May 1827. 9 M iv Robert Carlyle was born on 30 Nov 1757. He died on 23 Jul 1821.
