Disambiguation

Not to be confused with James Carlisle (1756-1805) of Bath County, Virginia and Campbell County, Kentucky, who some researchers have believed was the one whose will is listed below. One key person that helps prove that it was this James Carlisle whose will was written and proven in 1802 in Bath County, Virginia is daughter Elizabeth Carlisle (1783-1863) who is referred to as "Elizabeth Hicklin" in the will, as she had married George Hicklin on 9 December 1800. The younger John Carlisle's daughter Elizabeth Carlisls was born on 16 March 1792, which was much too young to have been married in 1800.
