Mary Martha (Stewart) Lamar descended from distinguished ancestors on both sides of her family - the Stewarts and the Wroes. On the Stewart side of her family, her mother, Nancy Elezabeth Wroe was married to George Washington Stewart, son of Charles and mary Ann (Perkins) Stewart. Charles Stewart was a native of Shelby County, Kentucky. Thomas Stewart, the father of Charles Stewart and the great-grandfather of mary Martha (Stewart) Lamar was born in Scotland. He came to America with his brother, Patrick Stewart, who died as a bachelor in New York City, New York.
