Martha Elizabeth was born on Benoni Smith Lamar's farm in Martindale.

Like her brother, "Mat" attended the Teacher's Normal School in Whitesville, Kentucky and became an elementary school teacher. She taught for several years at the Lincoln School House in the Adairrr Community and at the Campbell School House.

Martha Elizabeth married Frank Winkler. Frank was a brother of John Henry Bryant Winkler, father of Hallie Fletcher Winkler Lamar. Martha and Frank had no children.

After Frank's death, Martha moved to Lewisport, KY. She lived for a time in a Nursing Home in Owensboro, KY. Until she fell and broke her hip, she was making her home with her nephew, Hugh Oliver Lamar in Hawesville. She is buried in the Hawesville Cemetery.
