Notes for Joseph Davis

  • Joseph Davis lived in the region of Augusta that became Botetourt in 1770. Rockbridge County was created in 1777 when it was carved out of Augusta and Botetourt counties, with Kerr's Creek being the boundary line. Those living south of Kerrs Creek were thrown into Botetourt County upon its formation. Those living north of Kerrs Creek were then thrown into Rockbridge County upon its formation; thus it behooves researchers to check all three counties for records as the area changed jurisdiction three times in a span of less than ten years.
  • per 6 Sep 1849 letter from Samuel Daveiss, Harrodsburg to nephew James H Daveiss, Georgetown says James Davis, b Ireland, sons: James d 1816 Lincoln Co KY, Joseph D d 1795, Samuel d Feb 1794 Crab Orchard KY & John lived NC, arrived from VA Fall 1779
