- In the name of God Aame [Amen], I being sick and very low but in parefect [perfect] mind and Memory blessed by God first discor my body to be descantly [decently] buried in the ground from whence it came
- first I give and do b[e]queth to my well beloved sister five pounds in money.
- Item I give four pounds to my Sister Margrat
- Item I give unt[o] my Cousin Elebth [Elizabeth] Evans own hefer & my bed and bed Clothes
- Item I give unto my Couson [Cousin] Richard Shanklin one black mare
- Item I give unto Margaret Shanklin own Cows
- Item I give unto sistre [sister] Ann own Cow
- It[e]m I give unto my Couson [Cousin] Joseph a Young Colt
- Item I give unto Ann Shanklin a hefer
- Item I give unto my Cousons [Cousins] Evan & Jonathan Two Colts
- Item I give unto my loving Brother Edward Shanklin all my Estat[e] to receive all my debes [debts] & pay denands [demands] his being my last will and Testament maid [made] this second day of October in the year of our Lord God 1768.

- At a Court Continued and held for Augusta County March the 22d 1769 This last Will and Testament of John Shanklin was proved by the Oaths of the Witts [Witnesses] thereto and Ordered to be Recorded and on the motion of Edward Shanklin the Executor therein named who made Oath According to Law Certificate is granted him for Obtaining a probat thereof in due form he having with Securities entered into & Acknowledged their bond According to Law.

Teste: John Fairbairn, Wm. Snodon. Proved, 22d March, 1769, by the witnesses. Edward Shanklind qualified, with Wm. Snodon, Andw. Johnston.
