  • 6 Feb 1770 - John Armstrong of Botetourt Co. sells to James Glen of the same place ... for 5 shillings ... 24 ac., part of 140 ac. granted to Armstrong by Settons Patent dated 6 Apr 1769 ... land in Botetourt, lately Augusta, on Catawba Creek, a branch of James River ... beginning at a Spanish oak and poplar on the side of a hill on the South side of the creek corner to the land of William Legerwoood I with his line N 24 W 72 p. to a Spanish oak and two white oaks on the North side of the creek and in the patent line and with the same S 60 W 70 p. to 4 white oak saplings on a bank S 28 E 57 p. crossing the creek to a locust and red oak by a gully near the foot of a hill and along the same 66 p. with the patent line to the Beginning (No witnesses) (signed) John Armstrong [DEED: FHL 0030702; VA, Botetourt Co.; Deed Book 1; pp. 58]s
