Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:


  • Page 156.--17th Augusta, 1775. Philip ( ) Nicholas, eldest son of Samuel Nicholas and John Thomas, executors of Samuel Nicholas to Jacob Brunk, of Frederick County, Maryland, on Brock's Creek, patented to William Rutledge. 20th August, 1745, and by him conveyed to Cornelius Ruddle. Teste: Caspar Karsnar, George Ruddle.

Jacob Brunk was born about 1734 in Germany, migrated to America by 1759 when he married Anna Maria Stouffer in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Jacob died in 1787 in Washington County, Maryland They had a son John born about 1760 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. John married Mary Magdalene [maiden name unknown]. John died before 1811 in Botetourt County, Virginia. They had a son, Jacob born about 1785 in Virginia.
