Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:


  • Page 38.--15th August, 1777. James Thomas and Sarah, of Hampshire County to Stuffle Brunk, head of cedar branch patented to James Claypol, Jr., 15th December, 1757, patented to James Thomas 27th August, 1770 between his and Samuel Nicholas' land. Teste: John Thomas, Charles Daley, John Brown. (Note: the name "Stuffle" is a shortened version of "Christophel", the german version of "Christopher").
