Harriet Horton was baptised on 4th May 1817 at Merston in Sussex, daughter of Elizabeth Horton, formerly Edwards, and her husband John Horton, an agricultural labourer.
The 1841 census finds Harriet living with her eldest brother, William, at Aldwick in the neighbouring parish of Pagham, close to the seaside town of Bognor. Later that year, aged 24, she married George Denyer, an agricultural labourer from Pagham. They settled in Pagham and had several children there. The 1851 census finds them living at Lagness, a hamlet in Pagham parish close to the border with Merston. By 1861 they had settled at nearby Rose Green in Pagham, where they appear to have lived the rest of their lives, appearing there in each census from 1861 to 1891. George worked as an agricultural labourer.
George died aged 83, being buried at Pagham on 14th February 1892. Harriet survived him by about fourteen years. She appears in the 1901 census still at Rose Green. She died aged 89 in 1906.
