He enlisted at Syracuse, New York, on May 28, 1918. On August 9th he reported at the Isolation Camp, Pelham Bay, New York. After 3 weeks in medical quarantine, he was placed in the 1st Regiment of the Training Camp. After 5 weeks he was transferred to the Extension Camp where the regiments were awaiting assignments. Later, after the signing of the Armistice, he was returned again to the Main Training Camp from which he received his discharge on December 23rd, 1918. Durgee was advanced to 2nd Class Seaman. DURGEE Pulaski-- Harold A. Durgee, 55, Of 63 S Fourth AV, Ilion died Wednesday in a Utica hospital. He had been in poor health for several weeks and seriously ill since Thursday. A native of Richland, he was born Jan. 26, 1897, a son of James and Alfretta Hilton Durgee. A former resident of Osceola, he spent his early boyhood there and received his education in local schools. He later was engaged in the lumber business and was connected with the saw mill at Osceola. On Nov. 23, 1927 in Rome he married the former Irene Fox. The couple moved to Ilion in 1941 where Mr. Durgee was engaged in the building and contracting business. He was a World War 1 veteran, enlisting in the Navy in May 1918. He received an honorable discharge on Dec. 23, 1918. Mr. Durgee was a member of the Ilion Methodist church. Surviving are his wife; four sons, Merritt W., Keith D., Randall J. and Timothy H., all of Ilion; one brother, Clyde Durgee, Buffalo; three half-brothers, Clarence Hall, Redfield; Don Hall, Moosejaw Saskatchewan, Canada, and Reo Hall, Osceola; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Saturday at the family home in Ilion at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Point Rock Cemetery. References
