Durgee Merritt W. "Veggie Bill" Durgee, 75, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at his residence. He was born May 8, 1930 in Osceola, N.Y. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. Veggie Bill was a retired Chief Architect for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He moved to Port Charlotte 15 years ago from New York. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5690, American Legion Post 110 and Eagles Aerie 3296, all of Port Charlotte. He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Durgee of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Diane Oestreicher of Spokane, Wash., and Denise Pinter of Lafayette, Colo.; two sons, Duane Durgee of Gainesville, Fla., and David Durgee of Gaithersburg, Md.; a sister, Donna Wood of Utica, N.Y.; a brother, Randall Durgee of Arcadia, Fla; and eight grandchildren. Memorial services will be held ... Saturday, June 11, 2005, at the V.F.W. Post 5690, 223204 Freedom Ave., Port Charlotte, FL 33980. Interment will be held at a later date in New York. References
