"Daughter of the American Revolution" Irene Durgee taught school for many years, both in Osceola, NY and Ilion, NY. She had documented her heritage back to the Revolutionary days, to an ancester named Arnold Lewis, enlisted in 1777. When her nephew Edward Aikens, told this to his elementary teacher in Rome, he was told he didn't know what he was talking about.
