Syracuse Journal, Jan. 1921: HOLD-UP SUSPECT ESCAPES FROM DETECTIVE ON STREET / Motorman Mistaken for Rich Conductor Loses 60 Cents to Robber / Clyde Durgee Held Up Near White Av. Early Friday [photo] Clyde Durgee, 1809 Cortland AV, Onondaga Valley, was robbed at the point of a pistol near White AV at 4 o'clock Friday morning. The gunman got 60 cents. Durgee, an employee of the Syracuse lines of the New York State Railways, was taking a short cut to S. Salina ST to catch an owl car to the barns to go out on his early morning run. Several other conductors and motormen live in that part of the village, and this same route is used generally by them. They believe that the robber was laying in ambush for another man, a conductor-motorman, with a large amount of money. Durgee is a motorman only... Photocopy in Scrapbook + Pink Footlocker folder

Syracuse Herald, 14 Oct 1928: MAN ARRESTED ON WIFE'S COMPLAINT Clyde Durgee of Rochester was arrested yesterday afternoon by Detectives William Metzger and Alex Block on a warrant sworn out by his wife, Doris Durgee, charging him with non-support of herself and two children. Mrs. Durgee, who is employed at the Onondaga County Home, called police and said that her husband had called on her at the Home and was there at the time. Police went there and found Durgee, They placed him under arrest and he was ordered held for investigation. Police claim that at the time of Durgee's arrest he had $400 in cash on his person.

E-mail correspondence from son Clyde's son-in-law: Clyde Durgee married a Doris DeLano they had several children one was Betty and another Donald who still might be alive in the Syracuse area. And at the same time Clyde left that area and his family, moved to Buffalo and married a Mamie Joseph and had several children while still being married to Doris! Also he changed his last name to Murphy! My wife's dad is Clyde Michael Murphy (Mike ) Debbie just told me not to forget her fathers brother and sister. They were as follows-- Emily Murphy and Patrick Murphy. Patrick Murphy died ca. 1963 age 25 from lupus in Niagara Falls NY.


Cannot find in 1930 census under either Clyde Durgee OR Clyde Murphy, but listed in Florida Death Index under Durgee.
