On 31 Jul 1886 at Smithsburg, Washington Co., Maryland, United States, at the age of 19 Florence E Shuff married John Frederick Montz age 22, son of John Montz and Nancy Poulas. Her married name was Montz. She and John Frederick Montz emigrated after Feb 1887 to Ohio, United States. Florence E Montz and John Frederick Montz appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Eden twp., Seneca Co., Ohio, enumerated 29 Jun 1900, renting their farm. Florence reports she is the mother of four children after 14 years of marriage. All four are listed wth them, Mabel, Ira, Grace and Otto. John Frederick Montz and Florence E Montz appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Eden twp., Seneca Co., Ohio, at Negrotown Road, enumerated 16 Apr 1910, Florence reports she is the mother of "no children" after 24 years of marriage, and yet there are two children listed at home, Otto and Martha. Florence E Montz and John Frederick Montz appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Eden twp., Seneca Co., Ohio, enumerated 3 Jan 1920, still renting their farm. Children at home this day are Martha and Otto, along with Otto's wife and their daughter. Florence E Montz and John Frederick Montz appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Lykens twp., Crawford Co., Ohio, enumerated 12 Apr 1930, own their farm. No children left at home, however their grand daughter, Dorothy Montz is still living with them. After the death of her husband, in 1939, Florence moved from the farm in Lykens, Crawford Co., OH to Sycamore. MONTZ DEAD AT SYCAMORE Rites For Widow To Be Held Wednesday Mrs. Florence Shuff Montz, 76, widow of John F. Montz, died at 9 p. m. Sunday Sept. 20, 1942, in Sycamore where she had resided for the past three years following the death of her husband. She had been seriously will for the past five weeks with complications. Mrs. Montz was born in Maryland Sept. 9, 1866, and was a daughter of William and Nancy (Palmer) Shuff. She was married July 31, 1866, to John F. Montz. Surviving are two sons and two daughters, Mrs. John Flachsenhaar (sic), near Bloomville; H. E. Montz, Ravenna; Mrs. Frank Biles, Sycamore; and O. P. Montz, Indianapolis; two half-sisters and a half-brother, Mrs. Lela Whitmer, Mrs. Bessie Stotlemeyer, and Leslie Shuff, all of Hagerstown, Md.; and eight grandchildren. A son and daughter are deceased. Before the death of her husband Mrs. Montz resided on a farm near Lykens. Funeral services are to be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the E. W. Moore funeral home in Sycamore and will be conducted by the Rev. C. F. Hager, pastor of the Sycamore Methodist church. Burial will be in the Mexico cemetery. FLORENCE MONTZ DIES AT SYCAMORE Funeral Wednesday Afternoon From Funeral Home There Mrs. Florence (Shuff) Montz, 76, passed away at her home at Sycamore, Sunday evening at 9 o'clock after an illness of about five weeks, from complications. The daughter of William and Nancy (Palmer) Shuff, Mrs. Montz was born September 9, 1866, in Maryland. She was united in marriage with John F. Montz July 31, 1866. He preceded her in death. She leaves the following children: Mrs. John Flechsenhar of near Bloomville; H. E. Montz of Ravenna; Mrs. Frank Biles of near Sycamore and O. P. Montz of Indianapolis, Ind., also eight grandchildren, two half-sisters and a half-brother, Mrs. Lela Whitmer, Mrs. Bessie Stotlemeyer, and Leslie Shuff, all of Hagerstown, Md. One son, Ernest, and a daughter, Martha, are deceased. Mrs. Montz had lived at Sycamore about three years, coming there from near Lykens. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the E. W. Moore funeral home in Sycamore, in charge of Rev. C. F. Hager, Methodist pastor at Sycamore. Item 1. I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses to be paid out of my estate as soon as practicable after my decease. Item 2. To my grand-daughter, Iverna Burger, I give devise and bequeath the sum of $10.00. To my grand-daughter, Sylvia Burger, I give devise and bequeath the sum of $100.00. Item 3. Of household goods and chattel property owned by me, I make the following bequests of specific personal property: A. To Iverna Burger, I give and bequeath: green breakfast set, one ivory bedroom suite, 2 small rag rugs, one plain glass water set, one hand painted fruit dish on stand, picture of Earnest and Martha. B. To Sylvia Burger, I give and bequeath: one piano and bench, one celery tray and salt trays to match, one pink glass fruit dish. C. D. To Clad Montz, I give and bequeath: one oak bedroom suite, one pair of pillows and bed clothing, one red comfort, one crazy comfort. E. To Ardyth Mey Montz, I give and bequeath,: one large mirror, one bureau , one iron bed with pillows and bedding, one bookstand, one silver pin cushion, one cake knife, one dozen cut glass sherbert glasses, one dozen linen napkins. F. To Glen Montz, I give and bequeath, one rug from the parlor, one oak dining room set, (one table six chairs, and one side board) one leather covered rocker, one center stand, oak. G. To Leroy Montz, I give and bequeath, one leather covered rocker, one small rug, one hand painted beard plate, four living room chairs, one living room stand, one oak book case. H. To John Frederick Monts, I give and bequeath, one pie knife, one butter knife, one sugar shell, six pie plates, one small bed and bureau. I. To Ethel I. Montz, I give and bequeath; One dining room rug, one living room rug, one old fashioned wood rocker, one dozen silver tea spoons, six silver table spoons, one wine colored tooth pick holder, one berry set, gold rimmed, set of silver salt and pepper shakers, one hand painted preserve dish, one cut glass pickle dish, two cloth covered rockers, picture of Earnest Montz. Item 4: All the rest, remainder and residue of my estate, whether real personal or mixed, of which I may die seized and not disposed of heretofore, I give, devise and bequeath to my son, Harry Edward Montz, to be his absolutely and in fee simple. In the event that my said son, Harry Edward Montz shall precede me in death, then it is my will that all said rest, residue and remainder of said property pass to Ethel I. Montz, to her hers absolutely and in fee simple. In the event that she also preceede me in death then it is my will that all said rest residue and remainder of my said property pass to the heirs of the said Item 5: I nominate and appoint William C.
