Otto Benjamin MONTZ

was born on 20 Mar 1893 at Wyandot Co., Ohio, (from obit). On his 1942 WWII draftcard, Otto reports he was born in Seneca Co., Ohio.  Before 1919 at Ohio Otto Benjamin Montz married Bertha (--?--).  He died on 14 Jan 1943 at Gallup, McKinley Co., New Mexico, at age 49.

He was described as medium height and medium build, with light brown eyes and dark brown hair he is married. He signed his name as "Otto Benjleman Montz" but is in the Ancestry.com index as "Montez" in Jun 1917 at Detroit, Oregon.

Montz Reichman via e-mail on 02 Oct 2000 7:38 PM: "Claude [Montz, Shirley's brother] told me something I had never heard before.  What he said was about the Otto Montz who was descendent from John F.  The one who went to Indiana.  He invented some kind of soap (either dish washing soap or laundry soap) and made a lot of money and when he came to the family reunions he would hide pennies in the grass and all the kids would hunt for them.  They really hunted hard as 10 cents would take them to a movie and ice cream or candy.   Hard to believe, but I know it was possible once.  "Ten cents doesn't buy much now."  

In 1930 Otto's occupation was as a salesman of floor washing materials for wages.

Otto reports he is married, but no wife listed with him.  He was described as height 5'10" and weight 147 lbs., with brown eyes, gray hair and ruddy complexion. He lists his daughter, Lucille as his contact person. Otto reports he has no occupation in Apr 1942 at Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana.

     "OTTO MONTZ DIES IN NEW MEXICO THURSDAY

Former Resident of Wyandot County Succumbs      Otto Montz, 49, a former resident of Wyandot county, died Thursday at Gallup, New Mexico, where he had gone earlier this month from Indianapolis, Ind. for the benefit of his health.      Mr. Montz was born in Wyandot county March 20, 1893.  His parents were the late John and Florence (Shuff) Montz.  He moved to Indianapolis from Wyandot county, and only recently had gone to New Mexico.  He is survived by a wife, also a daughter, Lucille, who resides in Indianapolis, Ind., two sisters and a brother, Mrs. John Flechsenhar of near Bloomville, Harry Montz of near Ravenna, and Mrs. Frank Biles of east of Sycamore.  One brother and one sister are deceased.  He had been a sales man by occupation.      The body is to arrive at Tiffin at 5:15 p. m. Sunday and from there will be taken to the E. W. Moore funeral home at Sycamore.  Funeral arrangements will be announced later.  The daughter is expected to arrive at the Flechsenhar home this Saturday evening, from Indianapolis".
