Facts and Events
Fannie went to Washington on the train with 4 children which included a very young baby during winter. The story goes that the train was held up by an avalanche for several days. During the entire trip Fannie had to cook on the stove in the train car, that was used for heating, to feed her family. Adolph had gone to Tacoma, WA. before her to get established. (Per George Bodner, collaborated by Morton Mihlstin). Yetta was Leo's wet nurse as Fannie had him when she was going through menopause and she didn't have enough milk. When she got pregnant she went to the doctor and he told her it looked like a tumor. She told him "then I've had 7 tumors before this one". (Per Morton Mihlstin) "ADOLPH AND FANNIE MIHLSTIN ARE BURIED IN MT. JUDAH CEMETERY IN BROOKLYN. I HAVE VISITED THEIR GRAVES" (Per George Bodner, grandson of Adolph Mihlstin and Morton Mihlstin) "I ALSO WISH THAT YOU COULD HAVE KNOWN HER. SHE WAS INDEED A WONDERFUL GRANDMA, AND A VERY STRONG PERSON. I ONCE OVERHEARD HER TELLING HER DAUGHTERS WHILE THEY CLEANED UP THE KITCHEN AFTER ONE OF HER GREAT DINNERS, "IF I KNEW THEN WHAT YOU KNOW NOW, I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD SO MANY CHILDREN". BUT SHE LOVED THEM ALL VERY MUCH." GEORGE (BODNER) Gmina Przemysl, Subcarpathia, Poland was Austria when Leon and Fannie Friedman lived there. Mort Mihlstin said that in 1940 Fannie was 81. This would make Fannie born in 1859 instead of 1862. References
