Adolph Mihlstin was a copper and tinsmith by trade. When he started the hardware store in Brooklyn, it went bankrupt so he took a job with Northern Pacific Railroad in Tacoma, Washington. The sent him by train and when he settled down and determined that he liked it there he sent Fannie a telegram to come out to him with the children, which she did. She took the train, but an avalanche held it up for 4 days. Each day Adolph went to the train station to meet the train, but the telegraph operator kept telling him that the train was still stuck because of the snow. She was traveling with 4 children and had to cook on the iron stove kept in the train car for heat in order to feed the children. On the 4th day, Adolph had to work late and didn't meet the train when it finally came in. Fannie never let him forget that story. (above story related by George Bodner and collaborated by Morton Mihlstin) 1900 Census shows Adolph as Abraham Millstine as well as the rest of the family. 1910 Census shows Adolph and Fanny possibly from Galicia, Poland, Austrian Empire

They bought a cabin for $35 in Washington State and in the morning after Fannie got home from the train trip, she woke and saw a flock of chickens scratching in the yard and told Adolph that he had made a great deal for the cabin and chickens for only $35. After working for the railroad for a while Adolph heard about an opportunity for a tinsmith in Oregon City, Oregon. He took the opportunity and moved there. He worked in Oregon City but lived across the river in Willamette Falls which is called Eastlyn now. (taken from phone conversation with Morton Mihlstin on 12/30/09) He built 2 houses shown in media file. The house built in 1902 in Oregon City burned down in 1940. (Per George Bodner) "ADOLPH WAS REALLY NAMED ABRAHAM, AND LIKE OTHERS, HE CHANGED IT, TO AMERICANIZE IT. ADOLPH AND FANNY MIHLSTIN ARE BURIED IN MT. JUDAH CEMETERY IN BROOKLYN. I HAVE VISITED THEIR GRAVES" (Per George Bodner, grandson of Adolph Mihlstin) Adolph and Fanny died in Brooklyn, Kings County at 199 Highland Blvd. Their house was 3 story and large. They lived on the first floor and Bella and Sam Gold lived on the second. When they were elderly and needed assistance, Leo and Belle moved into the third floor attic area which was a comfortable living and bedroom area. (Per Morton Mihlstin) Adolph and Fanny share the grave plot with Harry, Tillie, and Herman (Hubie).
