Amos Conklin, son of Stephen and Anna (Crane) Conkling was born on 26 December 1804 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married Abigail Coombs. Abigail was born on 6 October 1801 in Bath, Sagadahoc, Maine. This family may have lived in Indiana for awhile around 1830 as a daughter was born in Connersville, Indiana in that year. By 1840, they were living in Clermont County, Ohio. Amos listed his occupation as grocer in 1850 and as merchant in 1860. The 1860 census shows Amos, 56 years, Abigail, 58 years, and son, Andrew C., 14 years. The Cincinnati Pioneer Association lists Amos Conklin born 26 December 1804 in Hamilton County, Ohio. Amos died on 6 May 1866 in Cincinnati of "harmaturia". The Hamilton County death records show that Amos had previously lived in Clermont County, Ohio, was married, and had lived at 236 Laurel in Cincinnati for 18 years. He lived in the Walnut Hills area of Cincinnati. Amos's death notice appears in the Cincinnati Daily Gazette. His funeral was at the First Baptist Church in Cincinnati. Amos was buried at Spring Grove Cemetery, but was removed to Lindale Cemetery in Clermont County in July, 1882. The 1880 Census shows that Abigail's parents were born in Maine and lists her residence as 656 Gilbert Avenue in the Walnut Hills area of Cincinnati. An article which appeared in the Cincinnati Times in the 1950’s states that the Coombs family came to the United States in 1660 and to Cincinnati in 1810. Abigail lived with the family of her widowed daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Treasure Conklin for many years. Abigail died on 5 October 1890.
