Emily Coombs Conklin, daughter of Amos and Abigail (Coombs) Conklin was born on 25 June 1828 in Cincinnati, Ohio. On 3 July 1851 she married George W. Nye in Cincinnati. They were in Keokuk, Iowa in 1857 where a son was born. By 1860 the family had moved back to Cincinnati and were living in Mill Creek Township, in the Walnut Hills area of Cincinnati. Both Emily and George were teachers and George was the principal/superintendent of the Walnut Hills school district. George was born in Granville, New York on 22 November 1832 and died on 29 June 1900 in Cincinnati. Emily’s will was filed in Hamilton County, Ohio on 18 February 1895. She left every thing to her husband “in the faith that he would provide for their children”. Her will had been witnessed by her brother Oliver P. Conklin. As Oliver had already died, his widow, Lizzie T. Conklin and Adam Lepper filed documents verifying his signature on the will. George’s will which was also filed in Cincinnati leaves everything to Charles, his only surviving son. Emily and George are buried in Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati.
