137. Oliver Perry Conklin, son of Amos and Abigail (Coombs) Conklin was born on 10 September 1840 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Oliver was a graduate of Dennison University in Granville, Ohio. He remained at the university for several years where he taught Greek. He then returned to Cincinnati where he married Elizabeth Treasure, daughter of James and Mary (Cadby) Treasure on 27 November or 1 December 1866. Elizabeth is usually found in records as Lizzie. Oliver worked in Cincinnati in banking for several years. In the early 1870’s, due to poor health, his doctor recommended that the family move to a colder climate. The family, and the family of Oliver’s brother-in-law, Edwin Treasure moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where they were engaged in the manufacture and sale of women’s shoes. The family was living in Minnesota in 1872 when their daughter Katherine was born. Oliver’s health returned and the family returned to Cincinnati. Oliver’s good health was short-lived as he soon developed consumption (tuberculosis). The Cincinnati Daily Gazette records Oliver’s death on 2 March 1875 in Cincinnati. As Oliver was dying, he was also concerned about the financial future of his family. In preparation for their future, he taught his wife how to teach. After his death, Lizzie rigorously pursued a teaching career. She taught in Cincinnati and Clermont County for many years. Lizzie was born on 6 May 1847 in New Castle, Kentucky. Her parents were born in England. Her mother-in-law continued to live with the family for many years after Oliver’s death. In later years, Lizzie lived with her daughter Katherine and son-in-law, Edward Hitchens. When Lizzie died on 9 March 1935, she was living at 3918 Regent Avenue in Norwood (Hamilton County) Ohio. She and Oliver are buried at Lindale Cemetery in Clermont County, Ohio.
