Katherine Treasure Conklin, daughter of Oliver and Elizabeth (Treasure) Conklin was born 2 February 1872 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was sometimes called Kate. On 7 June 1894 she married Edwin Lockhart Hitchens in Cincinnati, Ohio. Edwin was born on 2 June 1859 in Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada. He worked for the Cincinnati Times Star as a journeyman printer/linotype operator. Katherine’s mother lived with the family for many years. By 1910 they had moved to Norwood, Ohio.
