Alphonso Vachon Dies of Injury in Car Crash - Alphonso Vachon, 63, Bluffton monument dealer, died at 7 o'clock Tuesday night at the Dade County Hospital at Miami, Fla, where he had been in critical condition from injuries suffered in a truck car collision Feb 22 near Miami. The body will be returned for services and burial. However funeral arrangements are incomplete. Vachon was injured in the same mishap which killed James Garrett, 61, and his wife, Maybelle, 60, both of Tampa, former residents of Bluffton and Montpeiler. Mrs Vachon, 55, suffered serious injuries in the accident but was listed as showing definete improvement. She remains a patient at a Homestead, Fla. hospital. All four persons were riding in the same car, which was almost demolished when a transport tank truck swerved into their lane of traffic and a head-on collision resulted. The truck driver was treated for head lacerations and shock. The Vachons had been visiting for two weeks at Tampa with the Garretts, who made their winter home there. Surviving Vachon in addition to his wife, Mary, are two daughters, Mrs. John Burroughs, north of Bluffton, and Mrs. John Schwartz, Bluffton, who with Mr. Borroughs arrived in Miami Monday. They are expected to return to Bluffton the latter part of this week. Bluffton News-Banner Wednesday, February 29, 1956
