CASCADE, Iowa - Agnese G. Hayes, 85, of Cascade, died Friday morning, Nov. 21, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke and the Rev. Daniel Krapfl officiating. Assisting Deacon will be Jay Reilly and Steve Strang. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, La Motte. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m. and the CDA and Legion Auxiliary Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. She was born on Aug. 25, 1923, in LaMotte, daughter of John and Katherine (McCarthy) Regan. She is a graduate of Holy Rosary School in La Motte. Agnese attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids for two years and Clark College in Dubuque for one year. She married John C. "JC" Ripple in 1948; he preceded her in death in 1952. She later married Joseph D. Hayes on Feb. 23, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade. Agnese was a teacher for 24 years in Jackson County schools. She later worked at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade for 14 years, as a Nurse's Aide. She was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, the Catholic Daughters of the America's Our Blessed Mother Court 1926, and the Cascade American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband, Deacon Joseph Hayes, of Cascade; five children, Craig (Kathy) Ripple, of Peosta, Roger (Julie) Ripple, of Cascade, Mike Ripple, of Des Moines, Pat (Kathy) Hayes, of Simpsonville, S.C., and Mary Ann (Jay) Reilly, of Omaha, Neb.; 17 grandchildren, Amy (Matt) Schermerhorn, Mark (Kari) Ripple, Reggie (Tina) Ripple, Kyle (Shawnna) Ripple, Katie (Charles) Privett, Ryan Ripple, Tara Ripple, Aaron Ripple, Dawn (Jeremy) Freerks, Melissa Ripple, Jennifer McNamara, Jeremy Hayes, Jennifer Hayes, Brendan (Paulina) Reilly, Isaac Reilly, Keenan Reilly and Caitlyn Reilly; 15 great-grandchildren, Kate Schermerhorn, Emma Schermerhorn, Jacob Ripple, Lauren Ripple, Avery Ripple, Nick Ripple, Drew Ripple, Emerson Ripple, Bryce Ripple, Kye Privett, Cody Privett, Emma Freerks, Eli Freerks, Evann Freerks, and Brendan Reilly; and four siblings, Margaret Stillmunkes and Monica Hoerner, both of Zwingle, Julian Regan, of Dubuque, and Pauline Takes, of Bernard. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Ripple; a granddaughter, Angela Ripple; and six siblings, Rita Regan, John Regan, Fred Regan, James Regan, Katherine Kemerer and Amelia Bruck. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Agnese may be given to Shady Rest Care Center, Aquin Elementary and Hospice of Dubuque.
