Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - November 13, 2009 Julian D. "Jukes" Regan, 79 of 704 Duggan Drive, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, surrounded by his family. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, with Monsignor Wayne Ressler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa, where military rites will be accorded by Dubuque American Legion Post 6. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 2 p.m. He was born on July 8, 1930, in Zwingle, Iowa, son of John and Kathyrn (McCarthy) Regan. Jukes was an Army veteran, serving in Alaska during the Korean War. He married Shirley Cherrier on June 9, 1956, in Dubuque. Together, they raised their three children. Jukes retired from John Deere Dubuque Works in the spring of 1987. After retirement, he worked several part-time jobs, which he truly enjoyed. Of those jobs, his favorite was being a cab driver. He was a member of the American Legion, UAW Local 94 and St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church. Jukes loved being surrounded by family and friends. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved fishing, especially up north with friends and family. Jukes and Shirley were avid campers with the Dubuque Land Campers club and also belonged to a card club. They have several wonderful friends from being part of these activities. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with all of their friends. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed playing cards at the American Legion. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; three children, Mary Kay (Mike) Webb, Dianna (Tim) Riniker and David Regan, all of Dubuque; grandchildren, Matt and Emily Webb, Jennifer (Matthew) Spahn, Russell (Melissa Hageman) Love and Maxwell Regan; great-grandchildren, Andrew Spahn and Brennan Love; sisters, Margaret (Gene) Stillmunkes, Pauline Takes and Monica Hoerner; sisters-in-law, Joyce Regan and Natalie Regan; a brother-in-law, Joe Hayes; and several wonderful nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rita Regan, Amelia (Neil) Bruck, Kate (Ray) Kemerer and Agnese Hayes; brothers, Jack Regan, Fred Regan and Jim Regan; brothers-in-law, Harold Takes, JC Hoerner and John Ripple; and a sister-in-law, Mary Regan.
