ZWINGLE, Iowa - Margaret Stillmunkes, 86, of Zwingle, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Luther Manor. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at St. Lawrence Church, Otter Creek, with the Rev. Donald Hertges officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery, La Motte. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where a wake service will be held at 3 p.m. She was born on May 12, 1927, in Zwingle, daughter of John and Kathyrine (McCarthy) Regan. She married Eugene Stillmunkes on Aug. 11, 1948, at Holy Rosary Church in La Motte. Margaret was a rural school teacher in Jackson County. She and her husband lived in the Zwingle area for 55 years. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and retired teachers association. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were always expected to play cards with grandma's rules only. Margaret is survived by her husband, Eugene, of 65 years. She had seven children, Dianne (Terry) Callahan, of Epworth, Darlis (Dan) Spaete, of Bettendorf, Gary (Pat) Stillmunkes, of Denver, Rose (Ted) Schulte, of Bradenton, Fla., Paul (Linda) Stillmunkes, of De Witt, Jeannie (Ron) Quick, of Davenport, Tom (Tina) Stillmunkes, of Dubuque. She has 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Monica Hoerner, of Zwingle, and Pauline Takes, of Cascade. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; four sisters and four brothers. In lieu of flower donation, gifts can be made to Margaret Stillmunkes Memorial. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the health care professionals that have been involved with Margaret's care, especially Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque.
