10. Adam BRATTON was born about 1750 in Augusta County, VA and died on 22 Dec 1800 in Augusta County, Virginia about age 50.

General Notes: He mentioned wife Elizabeth, son Robert, daughters Peggy A., Betsy, Nancy, Susy F., Patsy W., Sally, and on July 28th adds codicil stating that Elizabeth has been delivered of another daughter. His will was presented for probate, proved and recorded on 22 Dec 1800.

Adam Bratton married again in July 1788, so Agnes must have died prior to that date. Only one child, Margaret "Peggy", is listed as a Hogshead descendant. He had other children by second wife. James Bratton, brother of Adam and husband of Agnes (Hogshead) Bratton's sister, Rebecca, was named as guardian for Margaret "Peggy" Bratton, but not for any of the children of Adam's second marriage.

Adam Bratton was on Dumore's War listing: Dunmore' War was a conflict between the Colony of Virginia and the Native Americans of the Ohio Valley. Following increased raids and attacks on frontiersmen in this region, the Royal Governor of Virginia, Lord Dunmore, organized a large force of militia and marched to Fort Pitt arriving at the end of August 1774. Dunmore also ordered Colonel Andrew Lewis, commander of the southwestern Virginia militia, to raise an army in the south and meet Dunmore's force along the Ohio River. Lewis formed militia companies from Augusta, Bedford, Botetourt, Culpeper, Dunmore, Fincastle, and Kentucky counties. After Colonel Lewis' victory at the Battle of Point Pleasant, Dunmore successfully negotiated a peace treaty with the Delaware, Mingo, and Shawnee chiefs that prevented them from settling or hunting south of the Ohio River.

Adam married Agnes HOGSHEAD, daughter of David HOGSHEAD and Margaret GILKESON, about 1779 in Virginia. Agnes was born on 10 Jan 1759 in Augusta County, Virginia and died before Jul 1788 in Virginia.
