This Ordnance Survey map of 1944 from A Vision of Britain through Time locates the original rural districts in existence in Wiltshire between 1934 and 1974.

Warminster and Westbury Rural District was a merger of the earlier rural districts of Westbury and Whorwellsdown Rural District and Warminster Rural District. The rural district was on the western edge of Wiltshire with Somerset across the county border. It surrounded the urban districts of Westbury and Warminster. To the north were the rural districts of Bradford on Avon and Melksham, to the east those of Devizes, Amesbury and Salisbury and Wilton, and to the south that of Mere and Tisbury. Warminster and Westbury Rural District existed from 1934 until 1974 when it became part of the West Wiltshire District.
