It appears as though William may have emigrated in the late 1850's. He may well have accompanied Janet and Isabella to Canada at James's request. William is confirmed to be in Canada by 1864 since his marriage is confirmed in Ontario. He lived at fire number 5955 of Line 81.No buildings remain on the farm

  3. After spending a winter in Bright Ontario with his Uncle John Shearer, William drove a wagon pulled by 2 oxen to Elma Township where he helped his Uncle James Shearer clear farmland. In return, James gave him 100 acres. William later sold this land and purchased 100 acres of farmland a bit further east on the same concession. This land is currently ownd by Campbell Soups
