According to Norma Shearer, her grandmother Jane Boyd had a younger sister named Jean who often came to stay with Jane and her family. It appears as though her last name was mistakenly recorded as Shearer on the 1901 census and that Jean K. Shearer was in fact Jean K. Boyd...who later married a Cockwell. Jean (Boyd) Cockwell attended many Shearer reunions...as did some of her children.Further research suggests that she may have been a niece and not a sister although it ie entirely possible that she may have been an illegitimate granddaughter who was raised as a a sibling to her birth mother. Whatever her relationship to Jane(Boyd) Shearer really was, she was certainly considered part of the family and even appears in the family photo taken in 1903.
