  • 10 June 1764 - Alexander Read, of Amherst, to brother, Thomas Read, 115 acres on the James River, inherited from father, John Read.

Will Abstract

Will of Thomas Reed of the County of Botetourt
Names "my daughter Martha Gooden [s/b Goodwin], all that Tract or parcel of land, lying within the following bounds "Beginning at a honey Locust & red oak on the bank of James River..."", "Daughter Martha my Negro girl named Kitty, her daughter Judy and her son Pleasant", "my Daughter Ann Lynsey all that part of the Tract of land whereupon I now reside lying south west of the Yellow Gully which untries into off my Tract of land containing seven hundred and five acres which adjoin the land whereon I now live the said one hundred acres to the laid off that part next to Burkes Land also a Lott of land two & an half acres to be laid off to include the nick of Land in the fork between Hedley Spring branch and James River to include the dweling house and other out houses occupied by Walter Linsey".
3rdly "I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Mays all the balance of the Tract of land whereon I now live and a[f]ter the balance of the Tract of Seven hundred & five acres which has not been already bequeathed to my Daughters Martha & Ann."
4thly "I give to my Daughter Easter Mays a Tract of land adjoining the Lands of John Allen Esquire containing one hundred & seventy acres also my Negro Man named Billy."
5th "I give to my three grand daughters Florance Mays (daughter of James Mays) and Florence Mays (daughter of Mathew Mays) and Mary A Gooden each one bed of equal value or as near so as they can be made."
6thly "I give unto Catharine Pierce to be paid here in money out of the sale of personal Estate one hundred and thirty Dollars also one large Trunk. It is moreover my request and desire that she be permitted to live in the house or have a house on the Tract of Land which I have bequeathed to my daughter Mary Mays, and to have the bed which has already been given to her."
7thly "I give to Madison Pierce my black Maw Colt a saddle and bridle and a suit of clothes of the value of ten pounds Virginia currency."
8thly "I direct that all my property both real and personal not already disposed of be sold by my Execturos herein after named and the money arising from the Sale after paying my Just Debts and funeral charges to be equally divided amongst my four daughters Mary, Martha, Easter and Ann.
"I hereby constitute and appoint Thomas Martin and David Rowland Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I have set my hand and affixed by Seal this 12th day of July 1827.

    William Henry Booze, Jr., born May 8, 1842, died June 29, 1909, was the son of William Henry Booze, Sr. who married Martha Jane (Pasty) Peery, daughter of Abraham Thomas Peery and Harriet Mays Peery. Abraham Thomas Peery was the son of Abraham and Mary Peery. Harriet Mays was the daughter of Matthew Mays and Esther Reid Mays. Esther Reid was the daughter of Thomas Reed, who was the son of William Reed. William Henry Booze, Sr. was the son of Abraham Booze and Rebecca Linkenhoger Booze, the daughter of Elias Linkenhoger, Sr.

    iv. Thomas Reid, son of John Reid and Martha Reid, was born between 1740 and 1743 at Albemarle Co., Virginia. A he, son of John Reid, was baptized on 23 Jun 1743 at Rockfish Meeting House, Albemarle Co., Virginia. He and Florence Miller, daughter of Joseph Miller and Mary Reid, obtained a marriage bond on 28 Dec 1771 at Amherst Co., Virginia. John Reid provided surety and Florence provided her own consent. He died in 1827 at Botetourt Co., Virginia.

    The children of Thomas Reid and Florence Miller included Martha or "Natty" (Mrs. Thomas Goodwin), Anna (Mrs. Walter Lindsey Jr.), Mary (Mrs. James Mays Sr.), and Ester (Mrs. Matthew Mays).
