Jane Chapelle and her cousin Clara Kennedy worked at Harbor Beach, Michigan during the summer of 1911 and stayed with uncle Peter and aunt Maria.

Michigan Gazetteer of 1909 lists "Chapelle & Son (P.J. & Walter E.) hardware, furniture and undertaking". According to the 1880 Antrim County, Torch Lake Village Township census, Peter was a hotel clerk in June of that year at age 25.
