Mrs. John Shearer Dies Suddenly Mrs. John Shearer, a resident of Elma Township for over a half a century, died at her home on Elma Street Listowel on Sunday, in her 70th year, following a brief illness and operation on Friday last. The deceased, whose maiden name was Marion Martin, came with her parents to Elma from Beverley Township, experiencing the hardships of pioneer life. She was wedded to Mr. Shearer in June of 1868 and besides her husband there survives a family of two sons and four daughters, namely Thomas of the fourth line Elma, William of Vermillion Sask, Mrs T. Burnett and Mrs Roy Burnett of Listowel; Mrs John Fleming of Poole and Miss Mary Shearer at home also three brothers and four sisters, James of near Edmonton, William and Walter all of Listowel, Mrs Matthew Chapman, second concession of Elma, Mrs David Robertson, sixth concession of Elma, Mrs John Chapman of Edmonton and Mrs James Chapman of California. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon to Elma Centre cemetery Rev J.M. Nichol, pastor of the Presbyterian church of which she was a member, conducting the service.
