John and Marion's eldest son, Thomas E., was recuperating from a sore knee and was staying close to the house. He managed to save the kitchen table and chairs but the house was lost. On a humourous note ,when daughter Christena was born, she was born in the woodshed. She always said it was because she had no house to be born into! Despte the fact that they came from Scotland, the dishes had more of an "Irish: flair..they had little green shamrocks on them! Some pieces still remain in the family and are prized treasures. Most of the dishes that are known to exist are currently owned by Barrett...His grandmother inherited both her mothers and her aunts heirlooms. It is assumed that Barrett inherited them as part of his mother's estate. The only other known item is a cup and saucer currently owned by Marlene Shiell. As the result of the fire, a brick house was built. It still stands to.day at fire number 6081, line 81.
