Leander joined the Confederate Army with his brother, Jesse on May 14, 1862; he transferred to Co. B, 65th Regiment, Ga Inf, Mar 1863. He was appointed a Second Corporal on April 1863. He was absent without leave Nov 26, 1863 and was reduced to Private on Jan 1, 1864 while absent.. After Leander left the Confederate Army, he joined with his brothers, Miles and Murray in the Union Army. He said he was given leave to visit home, but he did not return to the Union Army. He said he had cut his foot and could not get his shoe on. In 1891, Leander applied for a pension, but the application was denied, as he did not have an honorable discharge.

  6. His headstone was broken and sunken into the ground as of Feb 15, 1998. There was some notation on the original as to Military service, but it is impossible to read.
  7. Living at HH # 559 (next door to Bailis) on the 1870 census were, Turner, Leander, age 31; Sarah, 31 and Lewis R. 7/12.
  8. He was listed as Leander Turner, age 61, widowed; Elizabeth, dau; age 17, born Apr 1883; Bunyon, son, born Jun 1875, age 24.
  9. He was listed in the household of Harvey Dilbeck in the 1910 Fannin Co. Census.
