See family Bible provided by Ruby Driskell: note family surname spelling = Braucht throughout (dates from 1793 - 1903 with many listings; including Hager, Luce, Graham, Brown, Coacher, and Palmer, etc.).
In DANIEL'S EXTENSIVE DIARY/JOURNAL (too extensive to reproduce here) he mentioned cousins David, Jodie, George, and uncle David Braucht. In his diary he mentions that he owned land in Sheboygan Falls, WI. Many other comments from this diary contribute to data of this line in various locations, hopefully so noted. On 1Mar 1986 Arnold K. Braught of Mitchell, SD provided an extensive genealogy on this family prepared by Ruby Driskell that he had obtained from one of the Baldwin clan. I already had that data from Ruby, but greatly appreciated the effort by Arnold (Arne) and was interested that he had contact with a Baldwin. It is obvious that this diary (or at least large portions of it) is known to several family descendants. I hope to someday collect the entire diary record as I suspect that I have only some large portion of it at present. I think Michael Weight may have at least some added portion of it and need to request exchanges of what we each have to more closely have it all together again for anyone to study.
See Squaw Twsp.., Warren Co., IA July 1870 Census for some data confirmations on children of this marriage living there at that date, plus presence of Rebecca Braucht, 19 b. IA., and Alice T. Braucht, 17 b. IA. (daughters of his first marriage, not then married). See White Oak Twsp., Warren, IA 1880 Census also (same type confirmations) and daughter Alice T. of marr.#1 still living there (about age 27).
From book, History of Warren County, IA 1879 by Des Moines Union Historical Co. (reproduced by Unigraphic, Inc. of Evansville, IN) is the following: "James Langley and Mr. Clayton were the first settlers in White Oak Twsp., but Daniel Braught bought out Langley (Section 30) and entered the land as soon as it came on the market. He helped Alex McGinnis during a harrowing winter experience as follows: After staying a short time at Smith's he (meaning McGinnis) started on his way home by making loose moccasins of sheepskin and walking 7 miles to Dan Braught's. Mr. Braught took him on horseback further on his way to old John Smith's, where Josiah Davisson now lives, and the next day he reached his home." This same book elsewhere mentions Daniel Braucht, White Oak Twsp. farmer, Section 30.
See Warren Co. Appearance Docket A, pg.13 : State of Iowa Vs. Daniel Braght; indictment Feb. 1865, then Docket B for I & M.R. Co. Vs. Dan'l Braught 26 Feb. 1868 with notations that someone delivered notice on Dan'l Braught by delivery, a correct copy of notice to TIP (?) Braught, his wife, and a member of his family and over 14 yrs. of age at his last place of residence in White Oak Twsp.., Warren Co., IA. with comment from 5 Jan 1869 regarding motion for change of venue. I could not find added details. Also Judgement Docket Book A pg. 95 dated 4 Aug1858, continuances 2 Oct 1858 and 10 Dec.1858 is Daniel Braught Vs. James Robertson for $27.07 plus $5.15; then 11 Jan 1859 entry of judgement for the plaintiff with J. Stack attached as garnishee $11.10 plus received of James Robertson $13.00 with costs paid to Daniel Braucht. Apparently these men took (or bought without paying for) some property from Daniel and the court finally directed payment.
In an interesting paragraph about how White Oak Tsp. of Warren County, IA was known as the Braucht neighborhood where George, Adam, and Daniel lived is found in History of Warren County, IA 1987 pg 43. A 4'x5' county map of 1859 at the Warren County Library reported that the county was founded Jan. 1, 1849 with a population of 150. Daniel arrived only a few years later. I did not seek out that map, but in June 1999 Alice Baumann had visited there and was advised that the map created in 1859 (and found by Wm. Buxton, Jr. at the old Walton place) reportedly had farm house photos, but was not located then. She added that the old Dan Braucht farm was then owned by a Green family who were very cordial to her and gave her a commemorative plate of the old community church and school building on the corner of that farm (it had recently been razed with ceremony). See my photos of that building shown to me by Rory Taylor.

Interesting that most of his second marriage children moved to SD, either White Lake or Mitchell. Other family members also moved to those areas. In the Warren Co. History book item T36 on the 1880 Census, it mentions that in the 1850 Census (supposedly the first U.S. Census of Warren County, IA), there were only 951 people in 152 dwellings for 166 families. That report also related the total cleared acreage, crop and livestock amounts, and total value of machinery (an interesting account for those interested in such details, but not recorded here). I did not copy the entire list (limited time). One point to add here is that the early reports of this family in Warren County usually spelled the surname with the C (Braucht), although many of the documented descendants gradually adopted the G spelling. It is prudent to copy documents with the spelling given in the documents, but there is repeated evidence that this spelling difference does not indicate specific relationships. I confess that at times, particularly in my early research when I did not intend to pursue family history beyond a temporary curiosity, I was sometimes careless about this procedure. Since then I have not taken time to carefully review the original documents for this accuracy, although I often did make accuracy changes when conveniently reviewing original documents for other reasons. Once it was obvserved that the surname spellings were really not significant in identifying relationships, I declined to pointedly correct any such changes in my data. Readers and future family researchers should consider this pattern when refering to my collection. As I traced records back into history, it seemed that records of Daniel and his family provided an example of where the documented variances I had found became so pronounced that the pattern required repeated comment. At the Warren Co. Historical Library June 25, 2001 I found original report of "Statement of the amount of the School Fund loaned by ..... many names with amounts and dates of 5 yr.loans, including Danl. Braucht, Nov. 3, 1853 donated $200 (one of the largest donations listed) with note that he would also renew that loan amount on the 2nd month 16 day of 1855. Historically this document provided a nice list of some residents of Warren County from 1850 through 1854. At that same repository was a Military Register for Squaw Twp dated June 1864 listing several, including: Barrack, Edward, age 42; Braught, Adam, age 30; Braught, George, age 33; Bickel, George, age 44, and Braucht, Daniel, age 40 (Daniel on different page and surname spellings here just as found on the report). Photos I took at Hewitt Cemetery (in my files) included the three sided stone data with Daniel in the center; Millard F. and Elizabeth on the sides of a large stone in relatively good condition under some trees and blackberry bushes (loaded with chiggers that I inherited then). The data on the stone was: (center) Daniel Braucht born Dec. 20, 1823 died Dec. 23, 1899; (left side) Millard F. son, born Mar. 1, 1873, died Apr 14, 1899 and below was Edith E. dau born Mar. 21, 1878 died Nov 25, 1878; (right side) Elizabeth Braucht born July 2, 1833 died Feb. 19, 1915. The stone is located about in the middle of the cemetery just right of center near other family stones (see notes for his mother Rebecca). Of course, this Elizabeth (Sayre) was his second wife and these are two children of that marriage. I could not tell if the 1915 date carving was added to the (original) stone or the entire stone was set then (years after his death), but the shape of the stone that clearly shows knowledge of this sequence provides reason to suspect that this is not the original stone (see comments on his mother Rebecca where relative Lula Closson of SD arbitrarily replaced some of the deteriorating original family stones of Hewitt Cemetery about 1946). Warren Co., IA Marriages 1850-1867 book, pg. 6. Braucht, Daniel to Sayres, Elizabeth 20 Dec. 1857. Iowa cenus 1895 Roll 239 Warren Co. White Oak Twp., house and family 42 show Daniel Braucht, 71 b. PA; Elizabeth, 61, b. W.VA; Maggie M. 30 single b. Warren Co; Millard F. 21 single b. Warren Co.; and Ethel V. , 17 b. Warren Co. 1908 History of Warren Co., IA, White Oak Twp. shows Daniel Braught a first settler, in 1850 others followed (suggesting that he was there before 1850: see land records of 1849). One note (undocumented) says that he died in Indianola 20 Dec. 1900.
