Facts and Events
Mary died age 22y 7m,8d, leaving two toddler daughters. Daniel's diary mentioned that she lasted only 6yrs. in Iowa before she died. He clarified that her mother's name was Martha, but did not mention her father (which makes one guess that the father had deceased at the time of that writing) Moved to Warren Co.,IA 1852, according to one report (2yrs. difference in arrival dates). Alice Baumann advised that she was born in KY and has found several records to that fact. Alice also sent a gravestone photo from her Aug. 1999 visit to the Old Indianola Cemetery. The simple rectangular stone inscription was clearly visible: "Mary E. wife of Daniel Braucht died Feb. 11, 1856 22 Yr 7 Mo 8 D" . It is interesting to me that she was buried in the Indianola Cemetery when most of that family was buried in Hewett Cemetery. My research of Warren Co. Cemetery & Death Records (at IGS) reveal two grave stones for her: Row 3 N>S (pg. 371; Indianola '46 section) and Row 25 S>N (pg. 124 Indianola section); both stones inscribed Mary E. wf. of Daniel Braucht, d. Feb. 11, 1856. The latter stone gives age 22y 7m 8d. This could bear added research if important. See Early Burials in Indianola, pg.368 for Mary E. Braucht (but also see pge 124, 368, and 371) Alice also sent a piece of shingle from the recently destroyed community church and school house near Medford, IA on the corner of the Daniel Braucht farm in White Oak Tsp. (known as the "Braucht Neighborhood). Warren Co., IA Marriage Book 1800-1899 pg. 20: Braucht, Adam (60) to Thompson, Mary E. (47) 2 Sep. 1886. References
