Adam Braught JR obituary and will provide information. See copies. Ruby Driskell records show that wife #2 was Mary Sayre, d. 9 Sep.1909. He gave the plot for the Medford, IA Evangelical Methodist Church. Had lost one arm. Was known as a shouter (hearing problem?). He lost sight of one eye to cancer. The last ten weeks of his life he was confined to his home under care of his wife (obiturary). His obituary mentions many family details. Once lived at Victoria Mill near Charles Valley, PA; on land shared with Geo. Fedderhoff at Armstrong Valley, PA in 1840; and near William Taylor, according to his brother Daniel's journal. Driskell notes also state that he moved from Dauphin Co ,PA to Indianola, IA about 1857.

See Warren Co., IA will 7 Jun 1890 with supplement 6 Jun 1903. Name spelling there was Braucht. Mentions (still living then) wife Mary E.; children William A., Lewis F., Charles, Emma Guier, Laura R., Cora, and Olive Ora. Son Charles and son-in-law George E. Guier were named as executors. The 1903 Codicil readjusts amounts due to prior payments, but also mentions that Cora is now Mrs. Cora Kinty and that Mrs. Olive Ora Thompson (Curt Thompson with 2 children) has deceased.
See LDS Film of Warren Co.,IA, and obituary. March 1997 I found notes that state Mary E. Thompson (wife#2) is related to Adam's older brother Daniel's wife, but unclear what connection was implied.

See Warren Co., IA census of 1870 and 1880 Squaw Twsp.. His obituary said that Adam later developed a cancer near his eye (poor guy had several serious physical problems). Listed as relatives at his funeral were: Mrs. C.M. Clough of Peoria, IL; Henry Magard of Baxter, IA; Mrs. T.W. Nutt of Des Moines, and J.D. Sayres of Red Oak, IA. See LDS Warren Co., IA film. See Warren Co., IA Marriage Book 1880-1903, pg.74. 1870 Iowa Census for Warren County, pg. 439 house and family 106-106 lists a family surely to be this one despite several differences in data: Braucht, Adam, 44, farmer, b. PA (entire family born in PA) with real property value of $6800 and personal property value of $2141 show living there to be: Clara, 21; Henry, 20; Emma, 18; Louis, 15; William, 7; Laura, 5; and Clara, 2. Next door in hous 107 were Matthew Taylor, 28; Mary, 20?, William 3; and Rebecca, 1 (all born in PA; this a poor copy). Indianaola, Iowa Advocate-Tribune paper 30 July 1903, pg. 3 is the obituary for (some paraphrased but original copy in his file at 64C8): "Adam Braucht: died at his home in Indianaola, Iowa Saturday July 25, 1903; aged 77 years 5 months. Adam was born in Dauphin County, PA Feb. 25, 1826 and was married there to Sarah Sponsler April 25, 1847. Some years later they moved to Squaw Tsp, Warren Co.,IA. She bore him 11 children; six of whom: Charles; Mrs. Emma Gier and Laura F. of Indianola: Louis F. and William A. of New Virginia; and Mrs. Cora Kinetigh of Liberty survive them and were present at the funeral. The good mother died May 24, 1886, and he then married to Mrs. Mary E. Thompson. No children were born to that marriage, but no one could have been a truer mother to his children. Mr. Braucht was a christian citizen well esteemed by all who knew him. For years he was member of the M.E. church at Medford; the building situated on ground he dontated for that purpose. For years he had been afflicted with a cancerous growth near the eye that some time ago destroyed his sight. For the past ten weeks he was confined to his home where his every want was attended to by his wife, neighbors, and friends. His funeral occured Monday morning for a short service followed by burial at the Hewitt Cemetery. Relatives attending from a distance were: Mrs. C.M. Clough of Peoria, IL; Henry Magard and wife of Baxter, IA; Mrs. T.W. Nutt of Des Moines; and J.D. Sayres of Red Oak, IA".

See Warren Co., IA History 1987 pg. 328: Medford Methodist Church built on the donated corner of Adam Braucht farm, dedicated Jan 1893 by Rev. A. E. Slothhower; site selection committee members were Adam Braucht, Matthew Taylor, Charles Braucht, and George Braucht. In 1914 Mr. Ira Braucht served as Supt. with Lenore Braucht as a teacher. Also memories of Benjamin Braucht. (see personal photographs taken by this author) located on the corner of Adam Braucht's farm in 1892 (dedicated winter of 1893). At the dedication services the church doors were locked and no one was allowed to leave until the needed construction costs of $2600 were raised, according to a recorded interview with Benjamin Braucht. I learned that this was not an entirely uncommon practice (even mentioned in To Kill a Mocking Bird novel, etc.). The annual Taylor Family Reunion had been held there for several years, organized by Rory Taylor.

At the Warren Co. Historical Library is a June 1864 Squaw Twp Militia Register including Braught, Adam, age 30 (several men listed there are known to be of different ages than recorded in that document; and others listed there (ie.- George Braught, Daniel Braucht, Edward Barrick, etc.) allow prediction that this is the same Adam Braught listed here. Hewitt Cemetery stone for Adam Jr. (see photo in my files) is large and next to the stone for his wife, Sara A. His stone inscription says Adam Braucht died July 25, 1903 aged 77 yrs 5 mo. Other records show that he was born on 25 Feb 1826, which is consistent with this calculation. Iowa 1885 census for Warren Co., Squaw Twp house 56, family 58 (next door to Lewis F. and Abbie E. Braucht; two houses from George W. and Sarah E. Braucht) are: Adam Braucht, 59 farmer b. PA; Sarah A. 56 b. PA; Wm. A., 21; Laura F. 19; Clara C. 17; and Olive O. 14. Iowa Census 1895 Warren Co. roll 239, Squaw Twp. house 163 fam. 163 (Theodore and Rebecca A. Braucht were in house 160) shows Adam Braucht, 69 b. PA, Mary E. 59 b. Mariland; Laura Sayers, 19 b. Warren; and Albert Hess, b. M...
