Albert and Harriet were married on Boxing day, Tuesday, 26 December 1871 at St Peter's Church of England, Sturt St, Ballarat. At the time of their marriage Albert was a Farming Overseer at Dean (about 15km NE of Ballarat) and Harriet was a School Teacher at Chatsworth. In Jan 1872, Albert took over Harriet's teaching duties at Chatsworth. It is thought that they would have known each other in England as both of their families were living in Hastings in the 1860's. Alfred's sister Margaret married Harriet's brother Henry.
