About the Image Review Committee

Members of the Image Review Committee are responsible for patrolling newly uploaded images, directing users to information that will help them choose the appropriate license for their images, and deleting unlicensed or inappropriate images.

Overview Committee Liaison

Pkeegstra is available as a liaison between this group and the Overview Committee. There may be times that additional help is needed for this group to operate smoothly. Some examples include: a need for additional volunteers, questions about tasks, requests for assistance with conflict resolution, requests for policy changes, etc. If you would like help, please feel free to contact me either via my talk page or via email

Instructions

This page belongs to the Image Review Committee. Please feel free to make whatever changes to the instructions you feel appropriate.

Monitoring new images

Browse recently uploaded images periodically to make sure they are appropriate. Select New Images from the Admin menu. If you find images that are clearly inappropriate, please delete them.

Review Needed

Sometimes a user is unsure what license to choose. In that case they'll select a Help me choose option and their image will appear in the Review needed category. We cannot legally choose a license for any user. We can, however, direct them to information that will help them make an appropriate choice. If you feel comfortable helping people select a license for their images, select Review needed from the Admin menu and offer to assist on the image talk page.

1. Leave the Image license template on the image talk page by adding {{Image license}} to the text box along with your username. Users will generally decide upon a license at this point, however, sometimes they ask for more clarification.

2. Further communication: Please assist the user in understanding the rules. The following templates answer the most common questions:

Family Photos

• Template:Low resolution license explains that most photos can qualify as "fair use" if they are reduced in size.
• Template:Family photo license explains the pertinent parts of "fair use doctrine."

Old Documents

• Template:Public domain image explains what makes an old document or images of it, "public domain."

Fair use of printed material

• Template:Fair use of printed material explains the "fair use" rules for using printed material.

3. If the user does not choose a license in two weeks and does not communicate, delete the image.
