Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 4, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :

Owens, William - born 11/10/1750 in Frederick County, Virginia; entered service 1776 in Augusta County, Virginia, where he resided, in Virginia regiment; entered service 1778 in Montgomery County, Virginia, where he resided, in Virginia regiment; resided there & Wythe County, Virginia, after Revolutionary War, thence in 1796 to Russell County, Virginia, thence in 1803 to Pulaski County, Kentucky where granted Pension in 1834, when affidavit there by John Richardson age 72 that he say soldier in Revolutionary War service in 1778-79; affidavit in 1834 by Michael Buster, Pulaski County, Kentucky, age 76 (then a Revolutionary War Pensioner) that he saw soldier in Revolutionary War service in 1780; soldier died 8/9/1836; married 9/29/1773 to Nancy who was born 3/15/1754; widow granted Pension 1839 in Pulaski County, Kentucky; children's births: Julia 8/18/1774 (died 11/20/1776), Reuben 11/13/1775, Jane 8/10/1778, Sarah 2/15/1781, Rebeckah 9/15/1782, Samuel 6/19/1785 (died 1/13/1834), Nancy 11/10/1787, Avy 11/11/1780, twins William & John 3/25/1792, Behethleum 11/5/1794 (died 8/1795), Martin 4/12/1798, & Levina 7/15/1799; query letter in file says soldier married his cousin Nancy who died 10/2/1840 in Pulaski County, Kentucky.   • Vol. 2 - Hite vs. Buck--O. S. 187; N. S. 66--Bill 1809. From Frederick. Thomas Smith, aged 72, deposes in Frederick, 30th July, 1810, he found in John Harrel's papers a deposition by William Owens. Sarah Harrel, aged 65, deposes as above. Widow of John Harrel. Fairfax gave John a lease on Happy Creek, near Front Royal, for their lives, viz: John Harrel; his son, Nathan Harrel, and Nathan's son, Nathan. Elizabeth Harrel deposes as above (aged 37). Daughter of John. Charles Buck, aged 37, deposes 9th May, 1812. Bond by John Harrell, Jr., of Frederick County to Isaac Hite, dated 2d August, 1770. Bond by John and Jacob Harrell, 27th April, 1773. [Note: likely referring to this William Owens, also ties to record likely referring to his father William, as they were apparently living in Frederick County near the Harrel family].

    William was the son of William Owens and Jude Daniel. William was married to Nancy Owens(her surname) September 30 1773. Their children were Juda, Reuben, Jane, Sarah, Rebeckah, Samuel, Nancy, Avy, John, William, Bethlehem, Martin and Lavina (Bible Records in Revolutionary Pension File) He resided in Augusta Co. Va. Volunteered in June 1776, served six months as private in Capt. John Cook's Co. Col. Brown's Regt. While residing in Montgomery Co., VA., he volunteered in Mar. 1778, served 9 months., as lst Sergt., in Capt James Newell's Company, Col. Preston's Va. Regt., and served from some time in March 1779, nine months as lst Sergt. in same company and regiment. He continued to serve at various times until after the surrender of Cornwallis in Capt. James Maxwell's Co. Col. Preston's Regt. This service amounted to about twelve months. During this service he was stationed at several forts on the frontier, and in scouting and ranging against the Indians, and in frequent skirmishes. He continued to live in Montogomery and Wythe Counties VA., until 1796, then moved to Russell Co., and in 1803 moved to Pulaski County Kentucky.(From DAR application of Patricia Bear Fuson.)
