John Owens was the Son of William and Nancy Owens both being buried in this cemetery. Research indicates that the Owens line was Welsch. According to a history written by Grace Owens, he lived, along with his family, near Elihu on a bluff overlooking Pitman Creek. His siblings were: Juda, Reuben, Jane, Sarah, Rebeckah, Samuel, Nancy, Avy, William, Bethlehem, Martin and Lavina. He married Ann Chesney on the 3rd of August, 1816 in Pulaski Co., KY. Their children were Horatio, Kizziah, John A., Melvina, Elisha, William and Medora.
John served as a private in the War of 1812. He is reported to have fought in the Battle of the Thames on October 5, 1813, in which Kentuckians defeated the Britsh, French and Indians. It appears that his brothers William, Samuel and Martin fought with him. Samuel and Martin are described as becoming Baptist Preachers.
