Revolutionary War Pension Information

Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 2, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :

Henderson, William - entered service abt. 1779 in Augusta County, Virginia; also service in War of 1812; died 1816 in Lincoln County, Kentucky; married 7/2/1790 to Eleanor/Elendor Clarke (Marriage Bond 7/1/1790) there; widow applied for Pension age 88 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, 1851 & Pension Application rejected, insufficient proof of service; died 11/12/1853 there leaving children: William, Patsey, Loucinda Thompson, Mary Noaks & Sarah; daughter Mary resided there in 1851 age 50; Micajah Thompson was administrator of widow's estate there in 1854. F-R4868, R1252.

{Note: assuming that William Henderson was the eldest child of William Henderson and Martha Love, he was likely born in abt. 1765/66, making the claim of William's widow of his military service in 1779 [at abt. age 14] somewhat suspect. Although William appears to be the "Corporal William Henderson", listed as receiving a settlement of £63.14.10 for military service on 23 October 1784 [at the end of the Revolutionary War], his term of service could not be established, thereby leading to the rejection of the widow's Pension claim].
