Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

• Page 400.--5th November, 1747. £14 current money Virginia. Robert Green to Wm. Dyer, 350 acres, same as above (on the southermost branch of the south branch of Potomac, part of 2,643 acres patented to Rob. Green, 12th January, 1746). Tested and proved as above.

Estate Records of William Dyer

• Page 204.--17th August, 1758. Margaret Dyer's bond (with Daniel Harrison, Mathew Patton) as administratrix of Wm. Dyer.

• Page 392.--20th March, 1765. John Craven's bond (with Abraham Smith) as guardian (appointed) to Roger and John Dyer, orphans of Wm. Dyer. (Note: John Craven married William Dyer's widow).

William Dyer Killed by Indians in 1758

William Dyer was a likely victim in the "Ft. Seybert Massacre" on 28 April 1758 in Augusta (later Pendleton) County, Virginia (later West Virginia), which is mentioned in the Indian Attacks of 1755-1758 in Augusta County of settlers killed by "the enemy" (most likely Shawnee Indians being spurred on by the French) in Augusta County.
