Facts and Events
[edit] Oral Traditions[edit] Memories of Vera Bastin; 10/28/97I was in the cave the day Wayne drowned. I remember Mom calling from the head of the steps, "Wayne's drowned". I came up in time to see her running. She was wild with grief. Wayne had gone fishing with Dad and Uncle George, and somehow got into a drop-off. Uncle George reached over to help him out, and was pulled in also. Wayne was clinging to Uncle George and Uncle George was holding onto a reed or weed of some kind. As I remember he didn't think it would support them both and managed to push Wayne back in. I can hardly bear to think of this or visualize this in my mind. I can only take comfort in knowing Jesus received him. I see Dad coming to the house with Wayne over his shoulder. How did they ever stand this terrible thing? Did Mom see him bringing Wayne in like this? I can only remember what I saw.
