He moved to Mich with parents in 1881 and after his marriage to Myrrtilla the couple went to a farm in Shelby, about 25 miles north of Detroit. They raised grain and operated a dairy with the help of their 5 sons. Family also operated a butter and egg business. Wallace and myrtilla both sang in the Disco Methodist Church choir.

Wallace George Helferich born October the 19th, 1853, at Harrow, Ontario, and died on March 27th, 1943, in Detroit. He is buried at the Utica Cemetery, Macomb County, Michigan. He moved to Michigan with his parents in 1881, and married Myrtilla Cordelia Runyan, the daughter of Hiram DeWitt Runyan and Susan Cordelia Pierce, on the 10th of October, 1883, in Detroit, Michigan. She was born on October the 1st, 1857, in Utica, Macomb County, Michigan, and died on the 6th of August, 1934, in Detroit. She is buried at the Utica Cemetery. They had a farm about 25 miles north of Detroit, and moved into Detroit in 1929.
